October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The Andrew County Health Department would like to remind you 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. When breast cancer is detected early (localized stage), the 5-year survival rate is 100%. Women who breastfeed lower their risk of breast cancer. Nursing for a lifetime total of:
- 2 years lowers their risk before menopause by 40%
- 6 years lowers their risk before menopause by 66%
- 7 years the risk of breast cancer throughout a woman’s lifetime to almost zero.
